Your destination specifically asks for PNG, but the iPhone photo is HEIC. A PNG copy can solve the format requirement. It may use substantially more storage, so check whether the destination actually needs PNG or would accept a smaller JPG copy.
Convert HEIC to PNG in three steps
Try the real sample HEIC first to check the browser. PixMinto loads a local HEIC decoder only when processing requires it.
Choose up to five HEIC/HEIF images, each at most 15 MiB and 40 megapixels.
Process the images. PNG is fixed as the output; a lossy quality slider does not control PNG encoding.
Download the PNG, inspect it and compare the original and output sizes.
What lossless PNG means for a HEIC source
PNG uses lossless encoding for the pixels passed to it. That does not make the whole HEIC-to-PNG process an archival preservation workflow. HEIC decoding, color handling and an 8-bit canvas representation can change what is retained.
A standard 8-bit PNG does not recreate lost detail or preserve every HDR or wide-gamut property of the original. Keep the HEIC alongside the exported copy.
Why the PNG may be larger
HEIC can encode photographs compactly. PNG can require more bytes for the same photographed scene. A larger PNG result does not mean the dimensions were increased; compare both the pixel count and byte count.
Choose HEIC to JPG instead when the destination accepts JPG and file size is the main concern. Resize a compatible exported copy separately when fewer pixels are appropriate.
Metadata, Live Photos and file limits
PixMinto exports one still image. EXIF, GPS, extra frames and Live Photo content are not copied. A PNG copy is for the destination that needs it, while the original remains useful for editing and source information.
A 48 MP photo exceeds the 40 MP pixel cap even if the file is below 15 MiB. Export a reduced-resolution source from your photo app before trying again. Unsupported or damaged HEIF variants can still fail.
Frequently asked questions
Is a PNG copy always better than JPG?+
No. The choice depends on the destination. PNG can be larger and is not a replacement for the original HEIC’s metadata or HDR representation.
Why is there no PNG quality control?+
PNG encoding is lossless and does not use the tool’s lossy JPG/WebP quality setting.
Can I preserve Live Photos by converting to PNG?+
No. PixMinto exports one still image. Keep the original Live Photo and its associated content.
