HEICJPG

A website or app asks for JPG, but your iPhone photo ends in .heic. You need a JPEG copy, not a new filename. This guide explains how to make that copy with PixMinto, export it on a Mac, and choose JPEG for future iPhone photos. Keep your original HEIC if you may edit it again.

Choose the method for your device

Use the online steps below for a small batch, or follow the guide for your computer.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is commonly used for iPhone photos and can store photos efficiently. JPG and JPEG are two extensions for the same image format. A JPG copy is useful when an upload form, document workflow or app does not accept HEIC. Conversion improves compatibility; it does not restore lost detail or guarantee a smaller file.

Convert HEIC to JPG online in three steps

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG tool and choose your HEIC or HEIF files. The sample button lets you try a real HEIC before selecting a photo.

  2. JPG is already selected on this tool. Adjust quality if needed, then process the images. A lower setting usually reduces file size but can remove detail.

  3. Compare the original and result dimensions and file sizes, then download each JPG. Your source photo stays unchanged on your device.

On iPhone: existing photos versus future photos

For an existing HEIC, use the converter in a supported browser or export a JPEG copy from a photo app. If the picker already gives you a JPG, you can use that file directly. For future camera photos, supported iPhones offer the setting below. Choosing Most Compatible makes new photos JPEG; it does not turn existing HEIC files into JPG.

On Mac: export with Preview

Open the HEIC in Preview and use the export menu below. Select JPEG, adjust quality, and save under a new name or location. This makes a separate compatible copy. Apple documents this built-in method, so you do not need an online converter for that workflow.

File limits, quality and troubleshooting

PixMinto accepts up to five images per batch, with a 15 MB file limit and a 40-megapixel cap. A 48 MP photo exceeds the pixel cap even if its file is small. Export a reduced-resolution copy from your photo app before trying again.

If a file fails, check that it is a readable HEIC/HEIF, try a smaller copy or another up-to-date browser, and keep the original. A JPG can be larger than the HEIC. Compare the measured sizes rather than assuming conversion is compression.

EXIF, GPS and other source metadata are not copied. Output is a standard 8-bit image; HDR and wide-gamut appearance can change. This is not an archival copy. HEIC/HEIF supported. Exports one still image; keep the original for Live Photos and metadata.

How to convert a HEIC to JPG?+

Choose the HEIC in a converter, select JPG output, process it and download the JPEG copy. On a Mac you can also use Preview’s JPEG export. Keep the HEIC original.

How to convert from HEIC to JPG without replacing the original?+

Download or export a new JPEG file under a different name or in a separate folder. PixMinto leaves the selected source file unchanged and creates a downloadable result.

Can I rename .heic to .jpg?+

No. Renaming changes the filename, not the image encoding. Use a converter or an export command that actually writes JPEG data.

Can I convert Live Photos or a HEIC with several images?+

One still image is exported from each file. Motion, audio, bursts and additional images are not exported. Keep the original HEIC and any paired video.

Are EXIF, GPS and HDR preserved?+

EXIF, GPS and other source metadata are not copied. Output is a standard 8-bit image; HDR and wide-gamut appearance can change. This is not an archival copy.

Will the converted image always be smaller?+

No. Encoding can increase file size, especially for an already optimized source. Compare the actual byte sizes before downloading.
