A transparent PNG logo or a large website graphic may benefit from a WebP copy. Check that the destination accepts WebP and compare the result before replacing the PNG. This tool uses a quality-controlled browser export, so keeping transparency does not mean every color pixel is preserved losslessly.
Convert a PNG image in three steps
The preset accepts PNG input and fixes the output to WebP. A transparent sample can be useful for checking the result in your destination app.
Choose up to five PNG files, each within 15 MiB and 40 megapixels.
Set the WebP quality and process the images. The pixel dimensions stay the same.
Download the result and inspect it against both light and dark backgrounds if transparency matters.
Check transparency around edges
WebP supports alpha transparency. PixMinto keeps the transparent canvas when exporting PNG to WebP instead of adding a white background. Inspect shadows, semi-transparent edges and small lettering after conversion.
If the destination displays a solid background, check whether the app supports transparency for that workflow. The appearance in one viewer is not proof that every destination will handle the file the same way.
Google: WebP transparency support ↗Understand the quality setting
The WebP format has both lossless and lossy modes, but PixMinto’s browser canvas export uses a quality value. Do not treat this tool as a guaranteed lossless PNG-to-WebP converter.
For a logo, compare small text and flat-color edges. For a detailed graphic, compare textures and gradients. Use the original PNG when exact source pixels are required.
Compare actual file sizes
A WebP copy may be smaller, but no fixed saving applies to every file. A tiny optimized PNG can already be compact. Explicit conversion returns the chosen format even when the result is larger.
If the graphic has far more pixels than needed, use the resize tool separately. Keep the original PNG so you can make another export without reusing a reduced or lossy copy.
Frequently asked questions
Will PNG to WebP preserve transparency?+
The tool retains the transparent canvas. Verify semi-transparent edges in the destination app after downloading.
Is the conversion lossless?+
Do not assume so. PixMinto uses the browser’s quality-controlled WebP encoder; it does not expose a guaranteed lossless mode.
Will WebP always be smaller than PNG?+
No. Compare the actual result size. Highly optimized or very small PNGs may not become smaller.
