A destination asks for JPG, a logo needs transparency, or you want a WebP copy for a website. Choose the output based on what the destination accepts and what the image needs to retain. Conversion changes the image encoding; renaming the extension does not.
Choose the output before or after adding an image
You can choose Convert and its JPG, PNG or WebP destination before selecting the source. An explicit destination is respected when the image is added. After input, the source-to-destination row and action label show the actual conversion, such as Convert to PNG. PNG does not display an irrelevant lossy quality slider.
The three primary task choices remain visible. Switching from Compress or Resize keeps the original files in this tab and clears old exports, so a new conversion starts from the source rather than a previously degraded copy. Removing or clearing images updates that selection; a hard reload clears it.
Convert an image in your browser
Select the general converter for mixed supported input types, or choose a preset when you already know the source and destination formats.
Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC/HEIF input. Keep within five images, 15 MiB per file and 40 megapixels.
Choose JPG, PNG or WebP output. Adjust quality for a lossy format.
Process the images, compare dimensions and file sizes, then download each result.
Choose JPG, PNG or WebP for the destination
JPG suits many photographic upload workflows, but does not preserve transparency. PixMinto places a white background behind transparent areas when exporting JPG.
PNG supports transparency and lossless encoding, which is useful for some graphics and screenshots. It can be large for photographs. WebP supports transparency and lossy or lossless modes; this browser tool uses its quality-controlled canvas export, so do not assume a lossless WebP result.
Google: WebP format capabilities ↗Why changing the extension is not conversion
A filename such as photo.jpg does not prove that the bytes contain a JPEG image. A real conversion decodes the source and encodes a new file in the chosen format. Use the downloaded output rather than renaming the source.
JPG and JPEG are two extensions for the same format. They do not represent different levels of image quality.
Convert an iPhone HEIC photo
Use the HEIC to JPG preset for broad upload compatibility or HEIC to PNG when you specifically need PNG. A decoder loads on demand in a browser worker. Unsupported or damaged HEIF files can still fail, so start with the sample if you want to check the browser.
The HEIC workflow exports one still image, omits EXIF and GPS, and produces 8-bit output. It does not preserve Live Photos, all frames or the source HDR appearance. Keep the original.
Check size and quality after conversion
A format change can make a file larger. Compare measured sizes and inspect text, edges and transparency rather than assuming that every conversion compresses. Converting an already degraded source does not recover lost detail.
If an upload also needs fewer pixels, resize it. If it imposes a strict byte limit, compress it or use the 100 KB preset. Verify the final copy against all of the destination’s rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert images without uploading them?+
PixMinto processes selected images in your browser. It does not send them to a conversion server.
Which output formats are available?+
JPG, PNG and WebP. HEIC/HEIF is supported as an input for conversion.
Does conversion improve image quality?+
No. It creates a compatible representation and cannot recover missing source detail. Lossy output can introduce additional changes.
